Job Title: Community / Volunteer Developer

Summary: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House, a multi-service community agency working in East Vancouver, is seeking a creative and experienced community and volunteer developer to support inclusive community based programming and activities, resident involvement and community leadership that is representative of the community's demographics. This position reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with Kiwassa staff and community partners. This is a part time position funded for three years.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in strategic planning and community needs assessment and mapping, towards building a welcoming, inclusive and strong community
Provide multicultural outreach events to promote programs and volunteer opportunities, and welcome and encourage community inclusion of all residents
Develop community capacity building, leadership and volunteer opportunities and training, in collaboration with Kiwassa staff, programs and community partners, for residents representative of the community's diversity
Assess opportunities for volunteer placements, develop and implement marketing / recruitment plans, and recruit, screen, orient, train and recognize volunteers
Plan, organize and implement an annual multicultural open house, and inclusive community gatherings and special events, in collaboration with Kiwassa staff and volunteers
Develop volunteer program materials including application forms, job descriptions, orientation materials, and policies and procedures
Support, in partnership with Kiwassa staff and partners, volunteer run multicultural, inclusive programs and activities for the community
Participate in evaluation processes and shared learning with Kiwassa and other agencies
Maintain statistics and administrative files, manage program budget, and write reports.

Qualifications:

University degree or equivalent combined education and experience in social work, community planning, community development, or program coordination and leadership
Min. 2 years relevant experience in areas such as community development, strategic planning, outreach, community programming, volunteer supervision, and facilitation
Excellent communication, planning, leadership, coaching and problem solving abilities
Resilient, creative, and energetic person with a passion for community based work
Strong understanding of individual and community barriers to social inclusion
Strong understanding of community development principles
Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
Second language and knowledge of the immigration experience an asset
