Spanish-speaking Settlement Worker - (Full-time)

Applications are invited for the position of Spanish-speaking Richmond Hill Settlement Worker with Catholic Community Services of York Region, a non-profit, multicultural, social service agency providing settlement and integration services for immigrants in York Region. It serves people regardless of religion, culture, race and creed.

The Settlement Worker is a member of the Community Programs Team. The primary responsibility is to provide community programs and immigrant services for immigrants with emphasis on helping them adapt and adjust to their new environment. The goal is integration into Canadian society.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Receives and intakes clients providing information on community resources to meet their needs, such as housing, employment, education, training, health, immigration, citizenship, welfare, child care, legal services, rights and responsibilities, etc.
• Assesses client’s needs and formulates action plans relating to their problems of adjustment and integration to a new country, making appropriate referrals if necessary;
• Advocates for clients and facilitates access to services;
• Provides interpretation and translation for clients;
• Provides guidance and counselling related to settlement and integration issues;
• Conducts support groups and organizes programs, such as workshops, newcomer orientation, multicultural events and educational activities;
• Conducts outreach to community and collaborates with ethnic organizations/groups, social service agencies, churches/temples, government offices, local and ethnic media, etc.
• Working on shift in evenings and weekends is required.

Qualifications:
• University degree preferably BSW or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in the settlement and integration field.
• Working knowledge of the immigrant communities to be served.
• Cultural sensitive counselling.
• Ability to speak Spanish in addition to English. The ability to speak additional languages will be an asset.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Computer proficiency.
• Possession of a car and valid driving license.
